CALL FOR COMMUNITY EXTRAS

Canadian Stage is looking for non-CAEA community members and are working with our community partners, Casey House, ACT, PWA to play a vital role in the company’s production of The Inheritance Part One, which will be performed at the Bluma Appel Theatre from March 20 to April 21, 2024.

Canadian Stage is looking for 20 male or male-identifying community members per show. All community members will be paid an honorarium per show and will be added to the Canadian Stage opening night invitation list for shows at the Bluma Appel Theatre in the 2023/2024 season.

The Inheritance is a two-part Tony Award-winning play, written by Matthew Lopez, that examines the impact that the AIDS crisis of the late 80s and 90s has had on today’s gay community.

The entire production is experienced over two performances that run in rotation, with each part lasting between 2.5 and 3 hours. Community members will only be required for Part One.

At the end of Part One, Eric (the play’s central character) visits a house in upstate New York that had served as a convalescent home for men living with HIV. The men who had stayed in the home appear before Eric to welcome him to the house. It is a powerful moment in the story that serves as the emotional climax of the show.

These men are to be played by male and male-identifying members of Toronto's queer community, particularly members who have been impacted by HIV and/or HIV +.

Participants will sit in the audience for the entirety of Part One. Towards the end of the performance, they will walk to the stage, introduce themselves to the character Eric, and remain onstage for the final few minutes of the show.
