ABOUT THE POSITION
Canadian Stage seeks an adaptable, creative problem solver to fill the role of Building Operations Manager. This role will manage and coordinate all work related to facilities management and security at Canadian Stage, and will work with the Production team, contractors, and suppliers to ensure our building is running smoothly.
This position is integral to the maintenance and operations of our historically designated Berkeley Street site. The Building Operations Manager is the point person for completing and/or arranging maintenance and repair work on site and liaising with our City of Toronto partners and relevant contacts in the surrounding neighbourhood.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Arranges and oversees contractors on site to complete building maintenance and repair work such as plumbing repair, carpentry, masonry, electrical work, painting, pest control, and minor HVAC work.
- Keeps contractor and supplier contact lists up to date
- Acts as primary point of contact with the 3rd-party cleaning company and purchases cleaning supplies as needed
- Acts as primary point of contact with the 3rd-party snow removal company and, as needed, ensures walkways remain snow-free and salted.
- Performs general seasonal upkeep of building grounds (e.g. raking, planting)
- Acts as a liaison with the City of Toronto (lessor of our property) for all on-site requirements
- Maintains annual maintenance schedules for sprinkler and fire systems as well as HVAC systems
- Supports the Technical Director and Director of Production to ensure heath and safety procedures are adhered to
- Facilitates distribution of keys to staff
- Manages building security system, remaining on call for incidents during regular office hours and after-hours
- Orders office equipment, materials, replacement parts when required
- Provides additional support to the Production department when required
QUALIFICATIONS:
- You bring a minimum 2 years experience in building maintenance, property management or equivalent
- You are comfortable being a key point of contact for maintenance issues and are comfortable being on standby duty after hours for the building security systems
- You have a valid Ontario driver’s license
- You are a natural problem solver; you have a proactive approach to finding a fix when something goes wrong. You aim to seek expert advice when you don’t instinctively know the solution to a problem
- You are confident working independently and courteous while liaising with a variety of people, including other staff and external contractors
- You are proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and have some experience with budgeting and reporting
- You have sufficient physical strength and mobility to perform grounds maintenance and move furniture and equipment on a regular basis
- You have an appreciation for heritage buildings and interest in expanding your knowledge of how best to maintain City-owned buildings with heritage designation.
